I don't know about you, but I love it. Hot or cold, sweatened or unsweatened, day or night. I'm a huge fan. I find it even helps curve my apetite a bit so I don't get hungry quite as often. Anyone else find this? any other thoughts?
Hot green tea is awesome! I have this Japanese cherry green tea that is delectable! I don't ever add anything to it like milk or sugar, but mmmmmmmm green tea!
I don't usually add anything to mine, either, but I'll drink it if it's served to me that way.
Yep, green tea has a lot of health benefits. Drink it with lemon and honey.
Yup, and it sure tastes great!
I've never had green tea, but I've always meant to try it. I know it is a natural appetite suppressant, and has other health benefits as well. Where do you guys get good quality green tea?
Oh you can find it anywhere you get your groceries.
If you're OK with the average store quality, you can find it fairly cheap in the store. Obviously specialty green tea is going to be a bit more on the expensive side, but the quality is also a lot better, which includes flavor. I buy 100% japanese Green tea from amazon.com, which is really the best of both worlds. it's only, I think $15 for 100 tea bags, which is a little more expensive than in the grocery stores, but way better quality, and better priced than buying it elsewhere. I've seen specialty tea shops sell 20 bags for twice that price. it's ridiculous.
So just wundering, how is the green tea in the stores of lesser quality? Do they add preservatives?
Green tea is fabulous! I drink it hot or cold and love it both ways.
As to where to get the best quality tea, I've found loose tea rather than tea bags to give the highest quality and best flavor. Also to be the least expensive as well.
I order mine from a company called the Bulk Herb Store.
I'll give a couple of links below if anyone's interested.
the first is to organic green tea:

the next is to jasmine green tea:

I've had them both and they are very good products.
If you order some, please let me know what you think.
I have had it but wish I liked it more than I do. Its vary good for you.
I seel green tea, coffee (latte, mocha and black), and hot chocolate. please visit my website....

thank you....
well, as for the difference in quality from store and specialty green tea, it's all in the ingredients. the less you pay the lower the quality of tea. i buy mine from stash or the bulk herb store. if you buy cheap green tea it tastes like swimming pool water. jasmine green tea is wonderful as is peach and ginger.
I am asian, that automatically means I do. what asian doesn't? and, because of this fact, I don't drink it with anything, true asians don't drink asian teas with any toppings. I think I tried it once, I couldn't stand it, honestly. bleh. it doesn't taste as good or as natural. I drink british milk tea but that's different. If I am at home I drink some form of asian tea every day, and plain too. good stuff, have some on my desk at the moment, think it's nearly finished.
I drink jasmine pearl, every day! I'm addicted to the stuff. I do like sugar in my tea.
It is a bit costly, but I have a subscription with Amazon, which saves a little, and it's delivered automatically, which is very handy. So I'm with Jamesk, loose tea is much better than teabags!
Oh, meant to say that the brand I currently get is Rishi. I've tried a few others, and this one's a little sweeter, so I *could* drink it without sugar...probably should, too.
Yes! I adore tea in general but I find green tea to be the most thirst quenching. I am quite partial to sencha green tea, so light and bittersweet.
OK fasten your seat belts, a middle aged white guy actually switches from coffee in the mornings to green tea.
I've been doing that for about 3 weeks now: one bag peppermint and one bag green into the thermos mug and have at it. If I find myself dragging thinking I need coffee I just stand up and do some squats / calf raisers, anything to get the heart rate up a bit.
So far, it's working. I think.
I still enjoy coffee but getting more and more into paleo crossfit training and the like so trying to do things differently, at least most of the time. Except for beers. Not giving up beers any time soon.
Green tea is definitely an apetite suppressent, do to the fact that it contains EGCG, a catechen polyphenol which, as proven by a couple of recent studies, can boost your metabolism by about four percent in twenty-four hours when combined with caffeine. Also, green tea contains theanine which is an amino acid that can serve as a natural relaxant and mood stabilizer. So drink on, kids. And yes; The sugar won't do you much good, so use honey instead, or one of the natural sugar substitutes such as LoHan or Stavia.
green tea is awesome, so are many others...jasmin, ulong, jinsang, lichi, those are just a few I have in my colection
also, I've always had loose leaf...something about it is wayyy better
hot green tea all the way. Unless its some sort of green tea milk tea, then, it must be cold.
Prefer not to sweeten my green tea, or any tea in this matter, but if its cold, then, yes, cold green tea milk tean sweeten, please? :)
I got to try raw cane sugar when I was in Vietnam. Not the mass produced crap we have here in America. It made a huge difference, the taste was completely different from what I was expecting. I highly suggest getting some of that. If you can't get that, get cake sugar, I think its also called demorara sugar or something like that. It is much healthier for you and doesn't overpower the flavor of the tea.
as for the tea itself, teabags are terrible. They're made with what is called dustings. Its literally tea crumbs. Its the dust and crushed leaves left over from all the processing of the bigger tea sizes. Go with loose leaf tea every time, and learn how to make it correctly. You'll thank yourself for the extra time you spent.
You know, I've been drinking tea for more than five years now, and I've had experience with anything from the cheapest Red Rose tea bags from the local grocery store, to the hellish expensive tea leaves that only the most ardent tea snobs will buy. And wonder of wonders...I more often prefer tea bags. Yes, they're of lower quality technically, and yes, their flavour isn't as subtle as tea leaves, but they're a hell of a lot more affordable, a lot less hastle, and I'm sorry, but I find that most tea leaves I've ever tried produced either a whimpy, weak and thin taste, or a strong but bitter taste. Sugar, no sugar, milk, brown sugar, honey, you name it, I've tried it. Steeping as per the instructions, as per friends' recommendations, doesn't matter. I like loose leaf tea well enough, but when you're paying thirteen dollars for 100 little tiny grams of the stuff...tea bags, more of ten than not, are for me.
most people does not know how to use lose tea leaf, there for you will have all sorts of interesting taste on it. Tea leafs often require less than the tea bags. If you are bruding it for your own, one person tea, 100G will last you more than 6 months. For a cup, you only require few leafs often.
and with leaves, you may also re-use them to make more tea once your pot is out, but you need to make it just right
I have to agree here. Sorry meglet, but if you were getting weak tea from tea leaves, you were making it wrong.
You need not apologize to me for my own preferences. I've made tea myself, made it from instructions and from intuition, had it made for me by friends, and even by people in tea shops who supposedly know what they're doing. Not my thing, thank you. Just because I don't prefer something, does not mean I'm making it wrong, it just means I don't prefer it.
Okay, so I'm curious. Must I drink caffeinated green tea? Caffeine does things to me. Bad things. It makes me break out, gives me breast pain (a doctor told me that was why), and fucks up my sleeping pattern. Do any of you know if it's less healthy to drink decaf green tea? I've never really liked the taste of green tea as much as other teas, but I would like to improve a lot of aspects of my life, healthwise, and the mood stabilizer thing appeals to me.
Personally I wouldn't do it, just base on how decaf drinks are made. It just doesn't make me want to drink it. However, there's no real health reason that I know of why not to drink it. I just don't like the process it goes through.
Ouch, that's actually pretty horrible. Unfortunately I have an excellent relationship with caffeine so can't help you myself, but if I were you I'd do some research and, if I feel that the decaf is acceptable, health wise, I'd give it a shot. No reason to miss out on something awesome if you don't have to. Good luck!
I've never been much of a tea person. I will admit, that peach tea someone mentioned sounds good to me. I just, I don't know. I've never really cared for the flavor of tea much. I like coffee better, when I drink cafeen. Even so, I maybe drink that once a week, if that. Most of the time, I drink milk, water, and juices, as well as Naked Juice.
I love sweetened tea, made with teabags, of course. just had to say that.
